چکیده

Abstract Background Evidence-based treatments of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) aim to promote fear extinction learning. Post-learning sleep, particularly slow wave sleep (SWS), promotes memory consolidation and recall. Thus, boosting SWS might strengthen The current study investigated whether sleep-directed hypnosis designed increase quality improves recall reduces analog PTSD symptoms. Method In two subsamples (remote/laboratory), 211 healthy individuals underwent conditioning with a traumatic film clip. On the next evening, they training. Thereafter, experimental group received hypnosis, whereas control listened text. Extinction generalization film-related intrusions rumination were assessed on following morning. Results Subjective declined exposure an aversive film. No differences found in though exploratory analyses indicated less rapid eye movement after hypnosis. After reported improved quality, showed further deterioration. Hypnosis had no effects retention nor rumination. Conclusion results indicate that may be beneficial for improving subjective trauma but not enhancing reducing

Sleep deprivation affects extinction but not acquisition memory in honeybees.

Sleep-like behavior has been studied in honeybees before, but the relationship between sleep and memory formation has not been explored. Here we describe a new approach to address the question if sleep in bees, like in other animals, improves memory consolidation. Restrained bees were observed by a web camera, and their antennal activities were used as indicators of sleep. We found that the bee...

Nap sleep preserves associative but not item memory performance.

Many studies have shown that sleep improves memory performance, and that even short naps during the day are beneficial. Certain physiological components of sleep such as spindles and slow-wave-sleep are thought to be particularly important for memory consolidation. The aim of this experiment was to reveal the role of naps for hippocampus-dependent associative memory (AM) and hippocampus-indepen...
